CM to attend crucial national development council meet

Infrastructure Creation High on Agenda

ITANAGAR, Oct 21: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin, who left for New Delhi today to attend the 56th Meeting of the National Development Council, said that the thrust of the deliberations at this crucial event would be on infrastructure creation. “This particular edition of the NDC meeting is critical to Arunachal’s future growth as the approach to the 12th Five Year Plan is on the main agenda. We must present our State’s case very forcefully so that enhanced support from the Central government continues to come in during the next Plan period.”

Gamlin said that the State’s vast geographical area contrasted with the sparsely distributed population has created a situation where most Centrally Sponsored Scheme guidelines do not allow for any work to be taken up as it is based entirely on population density. “We have taken this up with the Planning Commission too on earlier occasions, but this high profile event gives us a platform to voice our concerns once again”.

A high-profile team consisting of Finance and Planning Minister Kalikho Pul, Environment and Forests Minister Setong Sena, Chief Secretary Tabom Bam, Principal Secretary HK Paliwal, Planning Secretary Ankur Garg and Special Secretary and PPP Sonam Chombay are accompanying the Chief Minister.

Sharing his views on the meeting, Pul said that considering Arunachal has a long international border, the state is a highly geo-politically sensitive one and it is for the Central government to invest both resources and commitment so that the people of Arunachal too can have a self-reliant and prosperous life, without any sense of alienation. E&F Minister Setong Sena expressed his concern that though a vast majority of infrastructure projects have been in the pipeline, the process of environmental clearances takes an inordinately long time. “While on the one hand we do need to preserve our expansive forest cover, we must also see that development projects are not held up as they cause huge cost and time overruns.”

The Chief Minister expressed his hope that with Dr. Manmohan Singh chairing the meeting, the State’s peculiar circumstances would get due recognition since the Prime Minister has always deeply understood the concerns and challenges that the people in our State face. The team is expected to hold a series of post-meeting consultations and return to the State capital on Sunday next.

For God sees everything

Dear Editor,

I would like to extend my support to Mr. Dominic’s letter published on 18th Oct, regarding 11th Oct incident in the Capital Complex. It is rightly said that we being peacemakers should not be like a trouble maker, instead guide others on the way of truth and the life.

I was surprise to see that few members from my own local Baptist Church were actively participating in throwing stones at their own brothers who were standing in the opposite side. At my first sight I could not believe it. They were the ones who attend church every Sunday, worshiping and praying for healing, prosperity and peace. Their behavior was like an Anti-Christ shouting for more stones as if they would receive a Big Reward for that. These modern Pharisees have two faces within one body; holy person inside the Church and a sinner outside the church, like a Chameleon changing its colour as per the environment. They are the modern Pharisees, the hypocrites.

Tomorrow, you may forget about the mistakes you made today but remember that its scar will remain as long as you live in this world.

I would like to request all the senior leaders of Arunachal Christian Forum (ACF), Nyishi Baptist Church Council (NBCC) and Arunachal Pradesh Christian Revival Church Council (APCRCC) to look into this matter seriously. Also, request all the Pastors of the respective churches to give them strong counseling classes, so that their l sickness may be healed as soon as possible. The Bible reminds us “whatsoever a man soweth, that he shall also reap.” On Judgment day, everyone will be rewarded according to his/her deeds for God sees everything.

Yours

Face the might of Corporate World united

Dear Editor,

Apropos, the article "Kebang versus Development', in the Readers Forum, published on Oct 18, I would  like to place before our interested readers few facts which seems are being distorted by few anti-social elements.

At the very outset, I would like to beg pardon from the general readers for my lack of words to define the people, anti-social elements, who are more interested in curving  out a wedge within the society with an intention to divide the Adis on the dictate of few vested people within and outside our state Arunachal Pradesh.

The article is directly an insult to the Adi people and its culture. It is to be clarified that the meeting as stated seems not to have been conducted in the name of Bogum Bokang Kebang. In no banner or poster, informing the Pessing meeting was the words 'Bogum Bokang Kebang' used or printed. However, as per the tradition and culture, the meeting is to be considered certainly to be a Bogum Bokang Kebang because of the participation of almost all the Banggos of Siang Valley. Questioning the credibility of the said Kebang is akin to questioning the tradition and culture of Adis.

As regard to the Adi Bane Kebang, the President of the ABK himself was present in the meeting and had accepted the need of the Bogum Bokang Kebang. In times of dire circumstances like the one which the whole of Adis are undergoing with sleepless nights today, that was the reason for the President, Adi Bane Kebang to declare that the Adi Bane Kebang shall lead the movement against 'No Dam on Siang River' from that day onwards. As for the involvement of the public servants, who attended the Kebang, it is to be clearly understood that all of them comes under Project Affected Peoples. Therefore, questioning their presence in the meeting is illogical. The kebang was not organized just to oppose, but to totally oppose any kind of Dams on River Siang. With regard to developmental issues propagated by the Dam proponents, it seems that you are a novice with no knowledge of dam and its ill-effects till date. Before criticizing the whole Adis, you are to understand properly the meaning of the off-repeated saying 'little knowledge is very dangerous'.

The writer and readers should clearly understand the message sent by the Dam Proponents through this unscrupulous people that Jaypee Arunachal Power Limited would be financing the rise of anti-social elements in the state of Arunachal Pradesh in the future. We appeal to the Government of Arunachal Pradesh to take note of the statement and take dire action against these anti-national people. Will the government of Arunachal Pradesh still rely on Jaypee Arunachal Power Limited shall be a big question to be answered by the Government.

The writers have hinted outbreak of communal conflicts within the sub-tribes of the Adis. He should know that we are not fools.  We know on whose behest is he wrote the article.

No one should teach the Adis who should be invited in Kebang and who should not be. Those who were not allowed to deliver speech at Pessing Kebang should never ever consider themselves Adis, again.

Last but not the least, we appeal to all the people of Arunachal Pradesh to stand united to face the might of Corporate World. Let us live together and die together.

Yours,

Atleast let us know

Dear Editor,

I would like to ask and remind the UD department about the result of surveyor and PA which was conducted 3-4 months back. Are not they are going to announce the result or was it just for namesake. Please do let us know who are the candidates that got selected. Are they some MLA, Minister or Officer's relative or some rich bureaucrats? It’s our humble request to all the department not to play with our emotions and passions. We apply for jobs not just to show our documents and degrees.

I request the department of UD to announce the result as soon as possible, even if I don’t get selected I want to know who are the candidate who got selected. And also it is my humble request to the department to at least fix and repair their Office phone number so that we can contact them.

Yours,

A candidate

Advani is a flag-bearer of Hindi brigade

Dear Editor,

Who has given the right to this old man from the saffron party called LK Advani to impose his ideologies on the gullible public of Arunachal Pradesh? The BJP is a party with the sole ideology of Hindu-ising and Hindi-ising tribals of Arunachal. He must be very happy that everything Indian found so easy way into this land, thereby shattering the languages of the native population.

Advani, an advocate of Hindi calls it loyalty of Arunachalis. But Tamils donot speak Hindi, but Tamil and English for the rest of the peoples. Will the old man call them anti-nationals? Advani is a flag-bearer of Hindi brigade. He may be happy his scheme succeeded in the tribal land. But the world laughs at us, including South Indians. We have already lost everything except the traditional tribal jackets some of us wear during festivals.

Yours,

Ngurang Ajo

From rhetoric to reality

Dear Editor,

Elvin Yobin, in his letter titled "Arunachal and discrimination"( 20 October), has asked the students of Arunachal Pradesh, studying in different parts of India, to remain united so as to prevent attacks against the community as has been witnessed in Karnataka recently. Though the proposal of Yobin is definitely welcome, but perhaps such step is not enough. When Indian students were being attacked in Australia, the Union Government immediately contacted its Aussie counterpart and angrily voiced its concern. Similarly it is the duty of Arunachal Pradesh Government to protest the barbaric incident and sternly ask its Karnataka counterpart to provide adequate protection to the Arunachal students. Also the AP Government should bring this incident to the notice of the Indian Government and ask the authorities to promote the statement of "India is for Indians" from rhetoric to reality.

Australia may have seen few attacks against the Indian students, but that "alien" nation was ensured that the criminals be promptly brought to book. In the same vein, it is sincerely hoped that the Karnataka authorities would also ensure justice to the assaulted Arunachal students, who are not only very much an integral part of this nation only, but whose right over Karnataka is not a bit less than an ethnic Kannadiga.

Lastly, before accusing Australians of promoting racism, the Indians of so-called mainland should learn the basic tenets of nationalism and humanity. By which democratic or moral right can they dare to taunt, abuse or assault the people/students hailing from the North-Eastern India?

Yours,

Kajal Chatterjee

FCI and Arunachalee employees

Dear Editor,

After prolonged perusal by  Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh the regional office of the Food Corporation was finally established at Itanagar in 2009. The FCI authority then announced  that 150 + posts would be created for employment of local Arunachlees. Accordingly as per advertisement No.DFCS/Esst/EE-133/08 dated Naharlagun the  31st August 2010, more than 100 posts of various categories were  advertised for  deputation/contractual/temporary basis for bonafied  Arunachalees. As such many Arunachalee candidates applied for the positions. But the present Authority of FCI, Itanagar , filled all those vacant posts from candidates of Assam ; which otherwise were meant for Arunachalees. If one visit the FCI office at Itanagar , there are 90% employees from outsiders.

When we do not get employment avenues in our state, than where shall we go? Hence, I fervently appeal GoAP , FCI consultative committee & AAPSU to intervene in the matter and ensure that along with outsiders local should also get employment opportunities .

Yours,

Sanko Tak, (on email)

Himalayan region: best place to produce solar energy

So far, hot and sunny regions, such as North Africa have been hailed as the best for large-scale solar energy production.  But a study has found that key areas for solar energy production through photovoltaic (PV) panels are in the coldest regions in the world, including Antarctica. According to the study the freezing heights of the Himalaya region in South Asia, and the highest mountains in the Andes in South America, are two of the best places to produce solar energy.

These areas have a lot of sunshine — and therefore a high amount of solar irradiation — and low temperatures help improve solar panel performance.

Just four per cent of the area with the highest potential in the Himalayas, or around 120,000 square kilometres, could power the entirety of China, based on 2007 electricity consumption data, the study says.

Experts feel that as the price of photovoltaic has been decreasing and its efficiency increasing very rapidly, it could be a promising technology for the future. It could also provide electricity to India, as well as contribute to the mitigation of climate change by reducing CO2 emissions in the two growing economies. The results could also prove a good incentive for small-scale solar electrification of remote, rural areas, they feel.
